Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: Russia Has Never Refused to Discuss the Issue of U.S. Missile Deployment in Germany

Alexander Grushko, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, told "Izvestia" that Russia has never avoided dialogue with the United States on the issue of deploying long-range missiles in Germany in 2026.

Grushko pointed out: "We have never refused to discuss. But when the U.S. withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, our first action was to announce a suspension of the deployment of these missiles and stated that Russia would not deploy them before the U.S. deployed related systems in Europe. That's it. What else is needed? If they are responsible politicians who truly care about their own national security interests, they should respond with 'agreed, we are willing to act on this basis.'"

He emphasized that Russia's position has been repeatedly explained to the U.S., and Europe is also fully aware of it.

"But it must be reiterated that the current military mindset is prevailing. Europe is trying to build a security system against Russia," Grushko said.

This diplomat believes that such policies "have no way out" and violate the principle of indivisible security. He pointed out that this principle means that no country can strengthen its own security at the expense of another country's security.

"Therefore, if they are determined to take the path of building military forces against the Russian Federation, they must understand: we will certainly create equivalent or even more efficient countermeasures. Ultimately, the military restraint balance based on rationality and the security interests of all parties will be replaced by an恶性 cycle of threats and counter-threats," Grushko emphasized.
