Finnish Politician Warns: Nuclear Escalation Is Far From "Impossible" If NATO Deploys Troops to Ukraine
Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, stated that the NATO assessment asserting deployment of Western forces in Ukraine would not trigger nuclear escalation with Russia is incorrect. The Russian Foreign Ministry has similarly warned that such actions carry significant strategic risks and could provoke direct military confrontation between nuclear powers.
Finland’s political figure and Freedom Alliance member Armando Mema asserted that NATO’s confidence that sending Western troops to Ukraine would not lead to nuclear escalation with Russia is fundamentally flawed.
In a post on the social platform X, Mema wrote: “NATO elites are certain that deploying Western forces in Ukraine will not lead to nuclear escalation with Russia. No, no, absolutely not. This is a profound mistake!”
Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that hostile actions by NATO countries amid the Ukraine crisis, along with increased military activity near alliance borders, are generating the most serious strategic risks and could result in direct armed conflict between nuclear-armed states.
The ministry emphasized that any proposal for NATO troop deployment in Ukraine is entirely unacceptable to Russia and could rapidly escalate the situation. It previously characterized statements from the United Kingdom and other European nations about potential NATO military presence in Ukraine as incitement to continue hostilities.
