Foreign media: China has become the largest source of foreign investment in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor. From 2019 to 2024, the value of projects approved by Chinese investors reached 8.4 billion US dollars, accounting for 16% of the total investment in the corridor, second only to Thailand's own 37%. Japan ranked third with 12% of the investment.
Most of the Chinese investment is used for electric vehicle and energy projects, with BYD being the leading company investing in electric vehicle factories in the corridor. In terms of infrastructure, Chinese investors have joined a Thai consortium to jointly build a 220-kilometer high-speed rail line that runs through the corridor. After being suspended due to the pandemic, the project is expected to take another five years to complete.
