Reference Message Network reported on April 18 that Reuters reported on April 16 that Chinese manufacturers are confident in continuing to expand their businesses overseas.
Zhang Bin (surname Zhang, given name Bin), 36 years old, does business in entertainment products, but his work has become less enjoyable due to U.S. President Trump.
Zhang Bin's company iFun has customers all over the world, providing various products needed for arcade halls, children's play areas in shopping malls, and trampoline parks, with order amounts ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.
Until recently, about one-fifth of the company's products (which has a factory in Guangzhou, the manufacturing hub in southern China) were sold to the United States. However, the high tariffs imposed by Trump on Chinese goods have forced American clients to suspend new orders.
Zhang Bin's company is also one of the more than 30,000 exhibitors at the Canton Fair, which is China's largest comprehensive international trade fair and will continue until May 5th.
Like many other business owners in Guangzhou, Zhang Bin still believes that Trump may cancel the tariffs before he truly feels the pain in China.
However, if this is not the case, he is confident in expanding his business in the next five years and selling products in other markets.
In an interview conducted at his own factory, Zhang Bin said: "We can redirect our time and energy to other markets, perhaps places like Canada or South America."
In a factory larger than a football field, around 150 workers are assembling some colorful "boxes" that, when combined, form toy houses and slides suitable for children's height. There are also ice cream machines and popcorn machines waiting to be shipped.
In another area, workers are testing various amusement facilities: air hockey, arcade basketball, and shooting games. A box nearby reads "Made in China."
Besides southern China, there is no other place in the world where Zhang Bin can obtain such a dense supply chain according to his order requirements. About ninety percent of the materials he needs can be purchased within hours of driving distance.
Zhang Bin plans to build another factory in southern Guangdong and does not believe that offshore locations (even those that might save on tariffs) could match the speed of his Chinese operations.
He said: "Our people have already discussed these high tariffs with many American clients. Many believe that today he imposes such high tariffs, perhaps tomorrow he will retract them." (Translated by Yang Xinpeng)
