According to German media reports, on November 16, the German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance, Lars Klingbeil, departed for Beijing to attend the fourth China-Germany High-Level Dialogue on Finance. Klingbeil is also the first minister-level official from the current German government to visit China.
A spokesperson for the German Ministry of Finance stated that the meeting aims to facilitate high-level exchanges on macroeconomic conditions and cooperation within multilateral institutions. Klingbeil particularly hopes to discuss "trade based on rules," raw material supply, and the Ukraine issue. Alongside Klingbeil's visit to China are representatives from the German financial industry.
Before departing, Klingbeil called for maintaining an "open dialogue" with China.
Klingbeil previously told Deutsche Presse-Agentur: "We should not just talk about China, but directly dialogue with China." China is an important participant in international affairs, and "there are many issues in the world that can only be resolved through cooperation with China."
On November 14, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced: After consultations between China and Germany, the fourth China-Germany High-Level Dialogue on Finance will be held in Beijing on November 17. The Chinese side, represented by the member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council, and head of the China side of the dialogue, He Lifeng, will jointly preside over the dialogue with the German side, represented by the German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance, and head of the dialogue, Lars Klingbeil.
Previously, the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, had planned to visit China on October 26, but canceled the trip at the last minute.
On November 3, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who was requested by the German side, had a phone conversation with the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock.
Wang Yi emphasized during the call that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, concerning China's core interests, as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The one-China principle is the most important political foundation for Sino-German relations. China has unconditionally supported German unification and hopes that Germany, which has experienced the pain of division, can fully understand and support China's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, opposing all "Taiwan independence" actions. China and Germany need to establish a more stable and sustainable policy framework to ensure bilateral relations always proceed on the correct track.
Baerbock stated that Germany highly values its relationship with China. She said that Germany's adherence to the one-China policy has not changed, and she is willing to closely communicate and exchange with China in all fields, properly address differences, and promote the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Germany and China. Wang Yi welcomed Baerbock to visit China at an appropriate time.
