China reiterates the Potsdam Proclamation and the Cairo Declaration
On November 15, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, posted pictures related to the Potsdam Proclamation and the Cairo Declaration on social media, citing Article 8 of the Potsdam Proclamation, emphasizing that the provisions of the Cairo Declaration will be implemented, and that Japan's sovereignty is limited to the four main islands of Honshu and other small islands designated by the Allied forces.
This slap was quite loud.
On the 7th, Takahashi Asako made outrageous remarks in the Diet, claiming that the situation in the Taiwan Strait concerns Japan's so-called "crisis of survival."
As of now, Takahashi Asako has not withdrawn her erroneous views, and the Japanese government has instead tried to justify it by stating that Japan's position on the Taiwan issue "has not changed at all."
But now, the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson has brought up the Potsdam Proclamation and the Cairo Declaration to tell Japan: Japan has no right to interfere in the Taiwan Strait, nor does it have the qualifications to make comments on the Taiwan issue.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japan and the 80th anniversary of the recovery of Taiwan. Japanese right-wing politicians have chosen this special time point to provoke China, which clearly shows their intention.
However, Takahashi Asako and others may have forgotten what happened to Japan when it once expanded its aggression abroad.
The China of today is not the China of 80 years ago. If some people in Japan still want to play with the old playbook, the result will only be worse than in history.
Now the ball is in Japan's court. If Takahashi Asako has any political sensitivity, she should quickly retract her erroneous views. Otherwise, continuing to make reckless remarks and provoking on the Taiwan issue will only drag Japan into the abyss.
