Trump Assigns Army Secretary to Ukraine Negotiations
Moscow, November 27 -- RIA Novosti
According to a report by NBC News citing an official source, US President Donald Trump trusts his Army Secretary Daniel Criswell, and therefore invited him to participate in negotiations on solutions to the Ukraine issue. Additionally, he had already planned to visit Ukraine for other meetings.
A senior official from the Trump administration told the TV station: "The expansion of Secretary Criswell's responsibilities is because he was going to Ukraine anyway to attend negotiations on drone technology and the combat potential of the armed forces. So it made sense for him to be involved in these negotiations with the Ukrainians (on solutions). Frankly, this is both a pure coincidence and because he is again a trusted member of the presidential team."
According to NBC, Criswell entered Trump's "focus" due to his close friend, US Vice President JD Vance.
A second source at the TV station said: "At the stage of intense negotiations, he can make decisions on whether to proceed without hesitation, because he understands and is confident in his goals. He knows where the red lines are."
Earlier reports stated that Criswell participated in meetings on solutions to the Ukraine issue last week and this week.
The US government previously announced that it was developing a plan for a solution to the Ukraine issue and pointed out that due to ongoing work, the details would not be discussed at this time. The Kremlin stated that Russia is open to negotiations and still stands on the basis of discussions in Anchorage.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a meeting of the Russian Federal Security Council on November 21 that the US plan could serve as a foundation for a final peaceful resolution, but there have been no substantive discussions on the text with Russia so far. According to his speculation, this is related to the US government's apparent failure to obtain Kyiv's approval, as Ukraine and its European allies still hold illusions, dreaming of a "strategic failure" for Russia on the battlefield. Putin pointed out that their position stems from a lack of objective information about the actual situation on the battlefield.
The Russian head of state claimed that if Kyiv refuses the US proposal, then the war instigators in Ukraine and Europe should understand that events that occurred in Kupiansk will inevitably be repeated on other key fronts. Putin added that this is in line with Russia's overall interests, as it helps achieve the goals of the special military operation through armed means. However, as previously stated multiple times, Russia is also ready for peace talks, which require substantive discussions on all details of the proposed plan.
The press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kyiv regime must make a decision and start negotiations. During the Russian Armed Forces' offensive operations, the space for Kyiv's decision-making is shrinking, which is precisely what is forcing the Kyiv regime to resolve the issue peacefully, as continuing to resist is meaningless and dangerous for Kyiv.
