Source: The results of the Russia-Ukraine Istanbul negotiations may become the basis for leaders' meetings
Sputnik Ankara, October 20 - Turkish diplomatic sources told Sputnik that the negotiation results achieved by the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul may become the basis for potential high-level meetings in the future.
The Russia-Ukraine side has already held three rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul, achieving the result of prisoner exchanges. In addition, Russia has also transferred the remains of Ukrainian soldiers killed to Kyiv. Both sides have also exchanged draft memorandums on resolving the conflict. Turkish diplomatic sources said on Tuesday to Sputnik that Turkey expects the Ukraine issue negotiations to restart in Istanbul, but no relevant signals have been received so far.
The source said, "We have successfully held three rounds of negotiations in Istanbul. The negotiation results documents submitted by the delegations to the leaders help to better understand the positions of both sides. These results will inevitably become an important basis for potential high-level talks. The current top priority is to ensure that the negotiation process continues and achieves substantive results."
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov previously stated that Russia is willing to discuss political solutions with Ukraine and work in any form, but the proposal made by Russia at the third round of negotiations in Istanbul in July regarding the establishment of three working groups to specifically study humanitarian, military, and political issues has not yet received a response from Kyiv. In addition, Zelenskyy rejected the proposal from Russian President Putin to go to Moscow to negotiate diplomatic solutions.
