Vance: Ukraine will no longer receive weapons through the US budget, but Europe can buy them from the US and then transfer them to Kyiv

On August 10, US Vice President Jay D. Vance said on a program on Fox News Channel that President Donald Trump plans to stop "funding the Ukraine conflict".

He said that Washington does not oppose European countries purchasing weapons more actively from US manufacturers, but "the US will no longer pay for this war with its own money." He stated, "US taxpayers are tired of the expenses incurred to support Ukraine."

At the beginning of August, a Senate committee approved about $1 billion in aid to Kyiv. Reuters reported that although this amount was not included in Trump's budget request, it received joint support from Democrats and Republicans.

Previously, The Washington Post reported that European countries indeed plan to provide weapons made in Europe to Ukraine. Germany amended its debt-limiting rules to allocate funds to support Kyiv and strengthen its own defense. Norway is preparing to use oil revenue sales to fund weapon supplies.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that at least six countries - Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the UK, the Netherlands, and Canada - have expressed willingness to provide financial assistance, but the specific mechanisms have not been determined yet.

Currently, Kyiv needs the "Patriot" air defense missile system most. The cost of one launcher is approximately $1 billion, and each missile costs $4 million. However, The Washington Post pointed out that many countries are not willing to hand over their existing systems. Germany has already transferred three launchers to Ukraine and is negotiating for new supplies.

Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Breukelman said on Twitter that the Netherlands will provide US weapon systems worth 500 million euros to Ukraine, including components of the "Patriot" air defense system and its accompanying missiles.
