Russian media attention: China's green hydrogen accounts for half of global capacity!
The cost of hydrogen in China has dropped to $3.85/kg, while the cost of electrolytic hydrogen in the United States is $5.2/kg.
An article was published in a Russian newspaper on May 1st.
The Chinese energy sector reported that the ability to obtain green hydrogen using renewable energy in China is constantly increasing, i.e., hydrogen obtained through electrolysis using renewable energy.
By the end of 2024, the production capacity of green hydrogen will reach approximately 250,000 tons annually, meaning that China accounts for 50% of the world's total facilities.
The report points out that in 2024, China implemented 35 green hydrogen production projects.
The report notes that despite the significant increase in the ability to produce green hydrogen, most of China's actual hydrogen supply is still ensured through the gasification of coal, methane, and industrial by-products.
It is worth noting that in 2024, China produced 36.5 million tons of hydrogen, an increase of 3.5% over the previous year. The NEA reported that approximately 20.7 million tons of hydrogen were supplied from coal, an increase of 6.7% over the previous year.
A total of 320,000 tons of actual hydrogen supply was generated through water electrolysis (using renewable energy and thermal energy), which is an increase of 3.6% over the previous year.
The report shows that as of December 2024, the cost of hydrogen in China has dropped to $3.85/kg, a decrease of 15.6% compared to the previous year. The price of PEM electrolytic hydrogen in the United States is $5.2/kg.
