Today, on May 5th, Lianhe Zaobao reported: "US President Donald Trump said that he 'would be willing to reduce tariffs on Chinese goods at some point in the future.'"

Comment: Although Trump has expressed his willingness to lower tariffs, there is still much uncertainty regarding when it will be implemented and the extent of the reduction. China should maintain strategic composure, adhere to its bottom line and principles when assessing the possibility of trade negotiations with the US, and prioritize safeguarding national core interests and economic security. It should not let down its guard due to Trump's remarks but continue to persist on an independent development path, promote high-quality domestic economic growth, and strengthen cooperation with countries around the world.

Continuously high tariffs force American consumers to pay higher prices for imported goods, increasing inflationary pressure, rising living costs for the public, which undoubtedly triggers dissatisfaction. American businesses are also affected; high tariffs increase the cost of importing raw materials for enterprises, weakening their competitiveness in the international market, and some enterprises even face survival challenges.

Regarding the tariff war initiated by the US, China's position is clear: unwilling to fight, but not afraid to fight either. If the US side truly wants to resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop threats and extortion, and engage in talks with China based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit. On one hand, saying they want to reach an agreement while constantly engaging in extreme pressure tactics is not the correct way to deal with China, nor will it work.
