On October 10, due to the acquisition of Autotalks by Qualcomm without legally reporting the concentration of operators, it is suspected to violate the Anti-Monopoly Law of the People's Republic of China. The State Administration for Market Regulation has lawfully initiated an investigation into Qualcomm.
According to a report from the People's Post and Telecommunications Daily, Qualcomm responded on the 11th, stating that it is actively cooperating with the relevant investigations by the State Administration for Market Regulation. Qualcomm has always been committed to supporting the development and growth of its customers and partners.
On the 10th, Qualcomm's stock price fell by more than 7%.
According to media reports, in June this year, Qualcomm announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies had completed the acquisition of Israeli V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communication chip company Autotalks. According to the agreement, Qualcomm will integrate Autotalks' V2X communication technology products into its Snapdragon Digital Chassis product portfolio.
This acquisition went through several twists and turns. In May 2023, Qualcomm first announced its intention to acquire Autotalks to enhance its layout in vehicle networking and road coordination safety. Founded in 2008, Autotalks was the first to launch a dedicated V2X chip set in the industry, supporting two mainstream standards: DSRC (Dedicated Short-Range Communications based on Wi-Fi) and C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything).
However, the transaction quickly faced scrutiny from regulatory authorities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Under pressure, in March 2024, Qualcomm announced the suspension of the acquisition of Autotalks, as it failed to obtain the required regulatory approvals within a reasonable time frame. Subsequently, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a statement saying that this move helps maintain competitiveness and innovation in the V2X chip market.
In 2025, Qualcomm restarted and completed the acquisition of Autotalks. According to foreign media reports, Qualcomm paid between $80 million and $90 million for the acquisition of Autotalks, far less than the initially stated $350 million in the transaction two years ago.
