South Korean media: Global smartphone market share, Apple tops the list, three Chinese brands enter the top five!
On February 9, the South Korean media "Nikkei" published an article stating that according to an analysis, global smartphone shipments increased by 2% last year, with Apple leading with a 20% market share.
According to preliminary market monitoring data released by market research company Counterpoint Research, global smartphone shipments grew by 2% year-on-year, maintaining growth for the second consecutive year.
Counterpoint Research attributed this growth to the premiumization strategy, effective marketing, and the popularity of 5G smartphones, especially in emerging markets.
Although the uncertainty of tariffs increased shipments in the first half of the year, the actual impact was smaller than expected, and the impact on shipments in the second half was minimal.
By brand, Apple ranked first with a 20% market share.
Its shipment volume increased by 10%, the highest growth among the top five brands.
This growth was attributed to the success of the iPhone 17 series and the continued sales of the iPhone 16 in Japan, India, and Southeast Asia.
Samsung Electronics ranked second with a 19% market share, with shipments increasing by 5%. The Galaxy A series performed well, driven by increased demand for mid-to-low-end products. In the high-end market, the Fold7 and Galaxy S25 series outperformed their predecessors.
Xiaomi maintained third place with a 13% market share, followed by Chinese brands vivo and OPPO, both with 8% market shares.
Outside the top five brands, UK startup Nothing and Google also achieved significant growth, with shipments increasing by 31% and 25%, respectively.
