President of a Japanese company that produces magnets laments: We can't do business anymore

姬路电子, located in the city of Himeji in Hyogo Prefecture, has over 60 years of history in magnet manufacturing, and 70% of its production is carried out at its factory in China.

President Shigehiro Aijima of Himeji Electronics said:

"Our products are mainly used for sensors. When an object passes by the magnet, it reacts and becomes electrified."

The company's products use samarium and neodymium magnets.

Generally, magnets using samarium can maintain stable performance even at temperatures as high as 350 degrees Celsius, and therefore are used in components such as fighter jet engines, small motors in satellites, and devices related to nuclear reactors.

Neodymium magnets are small and have very strong magnetic force, so they are used in missiles, drones, smartphones, and electric vehicles, and are an essential part of miniaturization and high performance. Both are in demand in both civilian and military fields.

(Reporter: How much longer can you survive?)

"Probably about two months."

(Reporter: What about after two months?)

"I don't know at all."

(Reporter: What do you think is the biggest blow?)

"The biggest blow is that we won't be able to do business at all after that."

"I don't know how long this will last."

"It's terrifying because we have no stock and can't do business..."
