Intense Struggle in the Post-Soviet Space: The Speaker of Georgia's Parliament on Former U.S.-Funded Unrest Now Financed by the EU

Georgia's Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told local journalists that revolutionary plans and unrest activities previously funded and organized by U.S. institutions are now being taken over by the European Union.

The day before, Georgia's "Imedi" TV reported that opposition parties were preparing unrest activities in Georgia under the direction of a foreign coordinator.

Speaking about the information regarding the preparation of unrest, Papuashvili said: "The activities previously funded and organized by the United States during the previous U.S. administration have now been transferred to the EU. Isn't it shameful for an institution that once stood for genuine peace to gradually turn into a project of unrest, hostility, and confrontation?"

Papuashvili added that the Georgian government plans to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter and identify all participants involved.

Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that, according to declarations by the current U.S. administration, USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and other funds have been used to plan unrest schemes in various countries, including Georgia.
