Reference News, October 5 report. According to a memo from AFP on October 2, Boeing expects the strike at its defense factory in St. Louis area to last "weeks or even months."

The strike began on August 4 and involves about 3,200 workers in Missouri and Illinois in the central United States.

Products from Boeing's St. Louis factory include F-15 and F-18 fighter jets, the T-7 "Red Hawk" trainer aircraft, and the MQ-25 drone.

Boeing executive Dan Gillen said in a memo to employees: "Given the actions of the union leadership over the past few weeks, this strike may last for weeks or even months."

Gillen said the company has decided to activate the second phase of its crisis response plan, including hiring more replacement workers and identifying more tasks that can be outsourced to third parties.

Before this strike, Boeing's commercial aviation business had faced a larger-scale strike involving approximately 33,000 workers. In 2024, their factories in the Pacific Northwest were shut down for more than seven weeks.

This strike, along with several safety investigations by regulators, has hindered the production of this American aviation giant over the past year.

The company may face more production difficulties, as Bloomberg reported that the delivery of the latest generation of the 777X model has been delayed again to 2027.

Bloomberg cited sources who said that Lufthansa, which is expected to receive the first of these twin-engine long-range aircraft, has started preparing to remove the plane from its flight schedule until 2027. Lufthansa did not explain the reason for the delay. (Translated by Liu Xiaoyan)
