German media: German consumers are optimistic about local electric vehicles
A new survey by Oliver Wyman on German consumers has revealed the evaluation of electric vehicles produced in different countries.
A new survey by Oliver Wyman shows that despite pressure on the automotive industry, German consumers remain optimistic about the competitiveness of local electric vehicles, believing that Germany produces the most competitive electric vehicles in the world.
About 43% of German respondents said that domestic manufacturers are leading in competitiveness, ahead of China, which is second with 23%.
The survey was conducted online in November 2025, with more than 1,000 people living in Germany participating. Oliver Wyman stated that the sample is representative.
Simon Schnurrer, a partner at Oliver Wyman, said that this survey highlights an opportunity to maintain and expand the potential of European automotive value creation.
Manufacturers need to pay more attention to pricing strategies and digital capabilities in order to turn consumers' existing trust in quality and safety into faster purchasing decisions.
German consumers' choice of electric vehicles
At the same time, the survey showed that 42% of respondents would consider buying Chinese brand electric vehicles instead of German brands, mainly because of lower prices. By contrast, 34% of respondents said they would not consider buying Chinese brands, citing concerns about quality and safety standards.
According to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), over 545,000 pure electric vehicles were newly registered in Germany in 2025. Although companies such as BYD have achieved strong growth recently, the market share of Chinese car brands in the German market remains limited so far.
