A September 28 report by Fuji Television: Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda published a commentary on his official website on the 28th, criticizing U.S. actions and statements, and stating, "Is the Kōshi Cabinet truly no different from the United States in its policy approach?"
Noda outlined his own political positions and personal views, writing, "President Trump’s recent remarks, aimed at securing electoral advantage ahead of the November midterm elections, are deeply concerning."
"The proposal to issue an executive order renaming Lake Ontario—adjacent to Canada—as 'American Lake,' calling for renaming New Mexico to 'New America,' and suggesting the Strait of Hormuz be renamed 'Trump Strait'—these proposals go far beyond acceptable bounds."
He further criticized, "If Republicans win the midterm elections, promising every adult American $5,000 (approximately 800,000 yen) would be utterly unrealistic."
Regarding the upcoming special session of Japan’s Diet, he stated, "The most pressing domestic policy issue is the consumption tax reduction bill," noting that "the government has not clarified the source of the proposed 1 trillion yen funding over the next two years."
He questioned, "Should the Kōshi administration, which plans to implement the consumption tax reduction during the unified local elections next April, be regarded as 'two sides of the same coin'?"
