The Railway Arteries Connecting Kazakhstan to China: The President of Kazakhstan Launches the "Dostyk-Moyint" Railway Duplication

Kazakhstan International News Agency report - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev attended the opening ceremony of the second line (duplication) of the "Dostyk-Moyint" railway, and extended his congratulations on the opening of the 7th "New Silk Road" International Transport and Logistics Business Forum. He emphasized that this event is of great significance, marking an important milestone in the development of Kazakhstan's transportation and logistics system.

The president said, "We have witnessed the official opening of the second line of the 'Dostyk-Moyint' railway. This project is a crucial infrastructure engineering project, which will certainly inject strong momentum into the development and efficiency improvement of Kazakhstan's transportation and logistics system. Looking back at history, 35 years ago, the 'Dostyk-Alashankou' railway was opened, connecting the railways of Kazakhstan and China, which was a historic event for our country. Today, the elders who participated in the construction of the railway are also present, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to you."

Tokayev pointed out that transport and logistics are the driving force of economic development and a key factor in strengthening international connections. Kazakhstan has great potential for development, and has been a "golden bridge" connecting China and Europe since ancient times.

He emphasized, "China is our permanent friendly neighbor and reliable ally. The two countries have always supported each other, and bilateral relations are built on a solid foundation of friendship and mutual trust, with a shared vision for the future. Cooperation between the two countries in multiple fields continues to deepen, especially the Belt and Road Initiative, which is of great significance. In 2013, China first proposed this initiative in Kazakhstan, and we fully support and actively participate in its implementation, as it completely conforms to our interests. The second line of the 'Dostyk-Moyint' railway is a proof of this."

The new line will increase freight capacity fivefold, shorten the time for transporting export goods, and further enhance Kazakhstan's transit transportation capabilities. The president said that this is the largest railway construction project since independence, and it has significant strategic importance.

He pointed out, "In the past three years, the builders have worked day and night, completing the railway ahead of schedule. This is a historic moment, the result of everyone's joint efforts. I extend my sincere congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all!"

Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan has become one of the main transit hubs in Eurasia, connecting north and south, east and west. Currently, five railway corridors passing through Kazakhstan lead to the world's largest trading markets. In the past ten years, the country has invested about 35 billion US dollars in the transportation and logistics sector. In his address to the nation, the president clearly instructed that multiple projects must be advanced on time. Future plans include building 5,000 kilometers of new railways and modernizing 11,000 kilometers of railways. Currently, the "Moyint-Kyzylzhar" railway is under construction, and the section from Kyzylzhar to Aktau port will also be upgraded. These measures will promote the rapid development of the trans-Caspian international transport route and the Central Corridor.

The president pointed out that to maintain national competitiveness, it is necessary to prioritize enhancing economic strength, and transport and logistics play a unique role in this. Therefore, enhancing transit transportation capacity has always been one of the priority directions. He also stated that in the future, through digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies, transport and logistics will be driven to become a leading field in the national economy. The task is clear, but a lot of work remains to be done, and it is essential to complete the plan on time and efficiently.

During the event, Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbaev, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan National Railway Company Talgat Aldabergerov, and Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan, railway industry elder Kaltay Sambetov also made speeches.
