Kazakh International News Agency report: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is willing to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazakhstan.
This statement was made by Zelenskyy during an interview with the American Fox News channel.
When asked if it was possible to hold a meeting with the Russian leader, Zelenskyy said he was open to negotiations and listed several countries as potential meeting locations.
"Our team has previously proposed holding meetings in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and European neutral countries such as Austria and Switzerland. We also said: if you are willing, we can also meet in Kazakhstan, and we are ready," Zelenskyy said in the interview.
It is worth noting that during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Kazakh International News Agency report: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan's position on the Russia-Ukraine talks on the 24th.
According to Tengrinews of Kazakhstan, President Tokayev answered media questions during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, stating that Kazakhstan is not a mediator in this conflict, nor does it consider itself a mediator.
"Kazakhstan is not a mediator in this military conflict. I believe both sides have the ability to dialogue on all disputed issues. As I often say, the Ukraine crisis is very complex and should not be taken lightly," he said.
He also said that due to the ongoing military operations, many territorial, historical, ethnic, linguistic, and political issues are intertwined.
"Yes, territorial issues are crucial and the most complex. However, they cannot currently be resolved at the negotiation table. Because discussions on historical issues (Kievan Rus, territorial 'gifts', the status of the Ukrainian state, etc.) are taking place simultaneously. There are various different views on this, including novel and unexpected ones. However, negotiations must continue. I have also said this in my speech at the United Nations," said Tokayev.
President Tokayev stated that if the leaders of the two countries wish to visit Kazakhstan and hold a meeting, our country is willing to create all necessary conditions.
"But the most important thing is that high-level meetings are always held after extensive preparatory work by diplomats and other departments. When military operations are ongoing, and there are differences on key agenda items, expecting specific results is actually an unrealistic wish," said the President of Kazakhstan.
The head of state also clarified Kazakhstan's position.
"We support Russia and Ukraine in initiating direct high-level negotiations. But prior to this, preliminary preparations are needed to achieve mutual understanding. Although Kazakhstan is not a mediator, it is willing to provide a platform for negotiations and meetings when necessary," he said.
