What does Israel need to destroy Iran's Fordo nuclear facility?
Israel has targeted several locations of Iran's nuclear programs but has failed to destroy Iran's Fordo uranium enrichment facility.
This facility is deeply buried underground, and to eliminate it, Israel may need the MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) weighing 13,600 kilograms (30,000 pounds), which uses its own weight and pure kinetic energy to reach deep-buried targets and then explode.
However, Israel lacks the ammunition or bomber required to carry this penetrating bomb. Currently, the MOP is carried by the B-2 stealth bomber.
According to Northrop Grumman, the B-2 can carry a payload of up to 18,000 kilograms (40,000 pounds), but the U.S. Air Force stated that it successfully tested a B-2 carrying two GBU-57A/B bunker bombs with a total weight of approximately 27,200 kilograms (60,000 pounds).
According to Northrop Grumman, this strategic long-range heavy bomber can travel about 11,000 kilometers (7,000 miles) without refueling and can reach any location in the world within hours.
