As the US forces amass toward the Middle East, Trump is also increasing psychological pressure on Iran. On the 17th and 18th, he posted two tweets on social media demanding that Iran unconditionally accept the US agreement and threatening to consider assassinating Khamenei: "We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is, and he is an easy target."
So how did Iran react to Trump's threat?
This time, Iran's reaction was quite tough. The New York Times reported that Iran has prepared to strike US bases in the Middle East. "If the US intervenes in the conflict, any US military base located in Arab countries will become a target for Iranian attacks."
However, Iran also has its own troubles: on one hand, if the US bombs Iran's underground facilities, Iran's current air defense system would hardly be able to effectively intercept it;
on the other hand, currently, Iran's longest-range missiles can only cover nearby US military bases in the region. Therefore, assuming Trump is determined to bomb Iran, US bombers will not take off from nearby military bases in the region but instead from the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean - which happens to be outside the range of Iran's missiles.
So, although Iran has shown a very tough stance in response to Trump's threats, so far we haven't seen any breakthrough solutions from Iran.
