Kazakhstan International News Agency - According to the Prime Minister's official website, on October 29, Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Wolezhan Bektenov met with the U.S. Special Representative for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Ghor and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the Prime Minister's Office. The two sides discussed issues related to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Bektenov pointed out that Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly values the development of relations with the United States, and this meeting is an important step to further tap into the potential of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
He said that the Kazakhstan government is taking systematic measures to create a more convenient business environment for foreign investors, including American companies.
According to data from the National Bank of Kazakhstan, since 1993, U.S. direct investment in Kazakhstan has amounted to approximately 61.2 billion USD, accounting for more than 13% of the total volume of foreign direct investment. In the past five years, bilateral trade has doubled, reaching 4.2 billion USD.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the prospects of expanding trade and investment cooperation and reviewed specific measures to deepen cooperation in areas such as industry, digitalization, energy, agriculture, transportation logistics, and water resources.
New growth points of cooperation are concentrated in the fields of transportation and transit transport.
In the energy sector, both sides emphasized the importance of promoting modernization and technology introduction within the framework of joint projects.
Both sides also agreed that the agricultural complex is one of the key directions of cooperation. Kazakhstan is among the top ten global grain and flour exporting countries. The two sides discussed the possibility of promoting grain processing projects and jointly exporting products to the U.S., EU, China, and India markets.
Deepening cooperation in the fields of digital industry and artificial intelligence technology was determined as a priority. Alem.AI International Artificial Intelligence Center was recognized as a major cooperation platform in Central Asia, gathering global leading high-tech companies, including Apple and Google.
The Astana Hub Center, an important part of Kazakhstan's digital ecosystem, currently has more than 1,700 companies operating there. Kazakhstan has also established the "Silk Road" Innovation Center in California, USA, and is collaborating with multiple leading U.S. enterprises and universities to implement accelerator programs to promote the technological partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States.
At the end of the meeting, both sides reiterated their willingness to expand trade and economic cooperation in all promising directions.
