Reference News Network, March 18 report: According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post website, March 16 report, data from the government shows that due to policy support and the promotion and application in the industrial sector, the output of industrial robots in China has accelerated growth in the first two months of this year.
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on the 16th showed that in the first two months of this year, China produced 143,608 sets of industrial robots, an increase of 31.1% compared to the same period last year.
This growth rate exceeded the 27% growth rate from the same period last year, when the total output was 91,088 sets. The output of industrial robots in the whole year of 2025 reached 773,074 sets, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.
At the same time, data showed that the output of service robots in the first two months of 2026 reached 2.54 million sets, an increase of 1% year-on-year.
The report stated that the rapid growth in the output of industrial robots is due to the support for the use of robots in more factories nationwide. China views physical artificial intelligence as a key industry of the future and a new growth engine for the national economy.
Data released by the International Federation of Robotics in September last year showed that in 2024, China was the world's largest industrial robot market, accounting for 54% of global installations. Data from the International Federation of Robotics showed that China installed 295,000 industrial robots that year, far exceeding Japan's 44,500 and the United States' 34,200.
Tech giants including electric vehicle manufacturers have entered the field of humanoid robots, while robot manufacturers are also increasing commercialization efforts to achieve large-scale applications in manufacturing.
The smartphone and electric vehicle giant Xiaomi, headquartered in Beijing, recently conducted a test of its self-developed humanoid robot for automotive production operations. According to reports, these robots can operate continuously for three hours without human intervention to complete assembly tasks.
Early this month, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, stated that Xiaomi plans to deploy "a large number" of self-developed humanoid robots in its own factories within the next five years.
The humanoid robot R&D company UBTech, headquartered in Shenzhen, said on the 16th that it has partnered with Siemens Industrial Software GmbH in Germany.
UBTech stated that it will use Siemens' technology to simplify development and production processes and aims to achieve mass production of 10,000 units by the end of 2026. (Translated by Tu Qi)
