Any sensible person can see that the United States is now adjusting its global layout according to its own strategy. Neither European allies nor Ukraine are as important to the U.S. as they once were.
The U.S. has recently taken two consecutive measures, which have made European countries feel extremely uneasy.
Donald Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that tariffs would be imposed on commodities from almost all countries and regions around the world, but he did not impose tariffs on Russia. The U.S. explanation was that it did not want to affect negotiations to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine due to tariff issues.
However, European countries do not think so. European countries originally opposed the U.S. negotiating with Russia. Now, the U.S. is imposing tariffs on European countries while showing leniency toward Russia, which has left European countries feeling disheartened.
However, the U.S. soon made another decision, suddenly withdrawing troops from southeastern Poland, preparing to wash its hands of the situation.
Kossiarnyk-Kamesh
On April 8 local time, Polish Defense Minister Kossiarnyk-Kamesh said that the U.S. military will withdraw from the Rzeszów-Jasionka logistics hub in southeastern Poland, which is responsible for military aid to Ukraine, and deploy to other areas of Poland.
Kossiarnyk-Kamesh said in an interview with PAP on the same day that the U.S. will transfer military personnel and equipment stationed at the Rzeszów-Jasionka logistics hub to other parts of Poland. German and Norwegian troops will take over the defense and operation of this logistics hub. He emphasized: "The U.S. military has not withdrawn from Poland; this is just a previously planned troop rotation."
Tusk
Polish Prime Minister Tusk stated on the 8th that the U.S. had informed Poland in advance and assured that the soldiers withdrawn from the Rzeszów-Jasionka area would continue to be stationed in Poland. This move "does not mean a reduction in U.S. military forces stationed in Poland or Europe."
Rzeszów location
Rzeszów, located near the western border of Ukraine at about 97 kilometers away, is where NATO member states store weapons and equipment to aid Ukraine. NATO weapons enter Ukraine from here, close to the important Ukrainian city of Lviv in the west.
In recent days, Russia's air strikes on western Ukraine have intensified, forcing Polish fighter jets to take off to respond, fearing that Russian missiles and drones might fall into Polish territory.
The U.S. military has the highest level of alertness towards danger. The sudden withdrawal of U.S. troops from Rzeszów-Jasionka is certainly out of fear of possible accidental attacks by Russian forces, not wanting to place themselves in danger. Additionally, the sudden withdrawal also aims to push the responsibility of operating the Rzeszów-Jasionka logistics center onto Ukraine and the EU, letting European countries handle these troubles themselves.
U.S. military
The U.S. military's actions have left Poland feeling frustrated. At least, the presence of U.S. troops in Rzeszów-Jasionka provided some courage to Poland. Now, Poland has to face Russian missiles and drones alone, and unexpected events may occur at any time.
In fact, the U.S. cannot be relied upon. Today, the U.S. imposes tariffs on European goods, tomorrow it could trample on them. If European countries continue to give way to the U.S., the U.S. will become more demanding.
Over the past few decades, European countries have grown accustomed to relying on the U.S. Every move of the U.S. military affects the nerves of European countries, but when it matters most, the U.S. cannot be trusted.
The U.S. will never put itself in danger and will never fight Russia for Poland or other countries. The U.S. only profits from chaos and war. European countries should learn to coexist peacefully with Russia. Only then can they break free from American control and achieve lasting peace in Europe.
