Did J-10 Defeat Israel's Assassination Plot? Iran's Foreign Minister Escaped Unharmed, Teaching the World a Lesson!

According to a report by The New York Times on July 2, current and former U.S. officials revealed that during sensitive ceasefire negotiations between the United States and Iran in April this year, the U.S. suspected Israel might have been plotting to assassinate Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The U.S. feared that if the assassination succeeded, the talks would collapse completely, potentially reigniting war. Reports indicate that the United States quietly warned Iran through other countries in the Middle East and urged Israel not to carry out such attacks during the negotiation period.

Pakistan swiftly deployed around 24 fighter jets for escort duties, while also dispatching airborne early warning aircraft to conduct full-time aerial surveillance. These are Pakistan’s most advanced fighter aircraft.

Intelligence indicated that Israel had planned an attack on this aircraft, with two Israeli fighters already having entered Iranian airspace from the Iraqi border. In response, the J-10CE fighter jets were urgently scrambled to perform escort duties. The delegation’s plane made an emergency landing at Mashhad, a city in northeastern Iran. After disembarking, the delegation members switched to cars and traveled for eight hours to reach Tehran.

For Pakistan, this was a remarkably successful escort operation. Perhaps deterred by the long-range precision strike capability of the PL-15 missiles carried by the J-10CE, Israeli pilots never opened fire on the Iranian delegation’s aircraft.

After all, if Israel’s F-35I or F-16 fighters were shot down, it would deal a significant blow to Israeli morale. After all, the Rafale has previously shot down an F-35; this time, it was the formidable father of the Rafale stepping in personally—Israel’s chances were far from certain.
