According to a live broadcast report by PBS News cited by Lenta.ru, Peter Navarro, advisor to U.S. President Trump on trade and economic affairs, dismissed questions about potential new sanctions against Russia following the consideration of a related bill in the House of Representatives as "hypothetical."
A journalist asked Navarro what measures Washington might take if the document were ultimately approved. The Trump adviser refused to discuss potential government actions, stating his role is to provide journalists with factual information.
Navarro responded: "Don’t ask me about what the president might do—I’m not involved in that. My job is to give you solid, fact-based material so you can write truly good articles. So go write your good articles, okay?"
Previously, CNN reported that the U.S. Senate had passed a bill aimed at strengthening sanctions against Russia and Iran. Named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham, the legislation grants the U.S. president the authority to impose 100% tariffs on the five main buyers of Russian oil and gas.
Potential targets of such restrictions could include China, India, certain European countries, and Japan.
Beijing has stated that if the United States passes this new Russia-related sanction bill, China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard its own interests.
