Japan's Liberal Democratic Party Calls for Enhanced Intelligence Collection Capabilities
According to a March 3 report by "Mainichi Shimbun," on March 3, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party's Policy Research Council, Kobayashi Takanori, met with Prime Minister Hayashi Sanae at the Prime Minister's Office and submitted recommendations to strengthen the government's intelligence (information collection and analysis) capabilities.
Kobayashi Takanori requested the establishment of an intelligence command center with the National Intelligence Agency as its core, which would have "comprehensive coordination authority" to collect and comprehensively analyze information from various departments and agencies.
In addition to establishing a platform to share information collected and analyzed by intelligence agencies such as the Police Agency, he also called for prioritizing the enhancement of the ability to intercept communications and collect information, and urged the establishment of a legislative expert meeting before summer this year.
The Liberal Democratic Party plans to submit proposals based on this plan again to the government this summer.
After submitting his recommendations to Hayashi Sanae, Kobayashi Takanori told reporters, "I want to firmly enhance external intelligence collection capabilities or counter-intelligence capabilities."
