Japan Provides Five Radar Systems to the Philippines Free of Charge
According to a report by Kyodo News on February 11: The ceremony for transferring five coastal surveillance radar systems provided free of charge by Japan to the Philippines was held on the 11th at a military base in Manila.
These five sets, worth 600 million yen (approximately 27 million RMB), are based on an agreement reached between Japan and the Philippines in 2023. At that time, Japan established the "Government Security Capability Enhancement Support (OSA)" framework to support the armed forces of the other country.
Japan and the Philippines have cited the "Chinese threat" as a reason to enhance their deterrence against China.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Philippine President Marcos and then Japanese Prime Minister Kishida on November 23, 2023.
This also marks a shift in Japan's post-war direction. The delivery took more than two years, during which the OSA project delivered rescue boats and other supplies to Malaysia and Fiji.
