Zakharova Returns Westerwelle’s “Embarrassing Moment” Remark in Response to Polish Protests
Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, commented on the situation in Poland, reminding Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski of his earlier remarks about an "embarrassing moment." Demonstrations have encircled Poland’s Constitutional Court, prompting President Katarzyna Nawrocka to urgently return to Warsaw.
In her statement regarding the developments in Poland, Zakharova referenced Sikorski’s prior comments, particularly his characterization of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s attendance at a G20 ministerial meeting in Atlanta as an "embarrassing moment."
Zakharova posted on her Telegram channel: "Mr. Sikorski, it seems Poland has now experienced the 'embarrassing moment' you described this morning in Atlanta?"
On October 30, protesters surrounded Poland’s Constitutional Court, and law enforcement entered a state of readiness. At the time, President Katarzyna Nawrocka was en route to Senegal aboard an aircraft, which she ordered to turn back and return to Warsaw.
