Wall Street Journal Breaks Major Story: Trump Secretly Sent CIA Chief to Russia, Even Top White House Officials Were Left in the Dark

According to a report by the U.S. Wall Street Journal on August 28 — President Trump personally dispatched CIA Director John Ratcliffe on a secret mission to Russia. Multiple U.S. officials revealed that the operation was extremely sensitive, to the extent that even some senior aides within the White House were unaware beforehand.

The report states that high-ranking military commanders and Trump’s core advisory team—typically informed of such major diplomatic moves—were completely uninformed about the messages Ratcliffe was conveying to the Kremlin. European allies only learned about the trip indirectly after it had concluded.

Two European officials told the newspaper that during the meeting, Ratcliffe reaffirmed to Russian officials that the United States’ commitment under NATO’s Article Five regarding collective defense was “rock-solid.” Additionally, according to information provided by anonymous U.S. and European officials, discussions also touched upon Russia-Iran cooperation and accelerating progress toward a peace process in Ukraine.

Previously, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service head Sergei Naryshkin confirmed that he met with Ratcliffe in Moscow, stating the topics discussed fell within the purview of intelligence agencies.
