Korean Media: The situation has reversed, European consumers now prefer Chinese cars over American cars!

On October 8, the South Korean media outlet "Today Digital" published an article stating that a survey found that in Europe, people's preference for Chinese cars has exceeded that for American cars.

The report from market research company Escalent titled "Research on the Influence of Chinese Car Brands" shows that European consumers have a more positive evaluation of Chinese cars than American cars.

This survey of consumers in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy showed that 47% of respondents are considering buying a Chinese car, a percentage higher than that for American cars (44%). Just one year ago, only 31% of respondents considered buying a Chinese car, while the percentage considering buying an American car was as high as 51%.

Trust in Chinese cars has also increased. The survey showed that trust in Chinese products rose from 12% the previous year to 19%, while trust in American products fell from 31% the previous year to 24%. Experts believe that President Donald Trump's tariff policies and the tense relations between the US and Europe may be the reasons for this shift.

However, Chinese cars are not superior in all aspects. European consumers still believe that Chinese cars should be cheaper than established brands, with 72% of respondents stating that they believe Chinese cars should be cheaper than established brands. Additionally, even if Chinese cars have superior performance, only 13% of consumers are willing to pay a premium for them.

Although the reputation of Chinese car brands is improving in the European market, price competitiveness remains a key factor. At the same time, due to declining reliability, American cars are losing their position in the European market. How much influence Chinese car manufacturers will have in Europe in the future, and how American car manufacturers will respond, remains to be seen.
