According to Reuters on September 12, a message from the U.S. Congress website showed that President Trump on the 10th revoked the nomination of Landon Heid to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
This position is seen as a key role in the "tech war" between China and the United States, responsible for overseeing export controls related to national security.
The report said this change has caused concern among U.S. hardliners on China, who worry that the government may take a more moderate stance on China-related issues.
Regarding Landon Heid, Reuters used one word to describe him: a China hawk.

The report said Heid is an extreme hardliner on China who helped the U.S. Congress committee draft technology policies.
Heid worked in the House of Representatives' "China Issues Special Committee," and was behind a series of "anti-China" actions orchestrated by the committee, pushing multiple bills targeting Chinese companies. It is known that the "China Issues Special Committee" was established by the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2023 as a special committee aimed at China, and since its establishment, it has created many anti-China topics that defame China.
In February this year, Trump nominated Heid to be the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, responsible for overseeing export controls related to national security.
Reuters reported at the time that if the nomination was approved, Heid was expected to further design export controls targeting China, stifling the development of key technologies such as artificial intelligence and chip manufacturing in China and other countries.
In the confirmation hearing in April this year, Tim Scott, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and a Republican African American senator, praised Heid, claiming he had the "background and perspective needed to ensure the U.S. remains technologically ahead of its competitors like China."
The report mentioned that after the news of Heid's nomination being revoked spread, U.S. China hardliners were heartbroken.
Chris McQuillan, a technical and national security expert who previously worked at the U.S. State Department, said on social media platform X on the 11th that this news was "very concerning." He wrote, "I hope this doesn't mean the government plans to further weaken our technological restrictions on China, but I'm worried it will."
Ryan Fedasiuk, another U.S. China hawk who previously worked in the U.S. State Department's "China Coordination Office" (also known as the "China Team"), said the news was "extremely disappointing." He mentioned Heid's previous actions against Chinese companies and claimed that Heid "understands China's ambitions, operations, and technological strategies better than anyone else."
In recent years, the U.S. government has broadened the concept of national security, abused export controls and extraterritorial jurisdiction, and frequently imposed malicious blockades and baseless attacks on Chinese companies. Since the Trump administration took office, it has continued to escalate these actions, launching trade wars around the world.
In May this year, Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, pointed out that the U.S. relevant actions seriously violate market rules, severely disrupt the stability of global supply chains, and seriously harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. China firmly opposes this and does not accept it.
Lin Jian emphasized that China urges the U.S. to immediately correct the wrong actions of protectionism and unilateral bullying, and stop the unbridled suppression of Chinese tech companies and the AI industry. China will take resolute measures to safeguard its development rights and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
