Media Report: France Prepares to Transfer Mirage 2000 Fighters to Ukraine Again

According to a report cited by the "Journal du Dimanche" (JDD), France is preparing to transfer two Mirage 2000 fighter jets from its armed forces inventory to Ukraine.

Paris, February 10 - TASS. According to the "Journal du Dimanche" (JDD) on Tuesday, France is preparing to transfer two Mirage 2000 fighter jets from its armed forces inventory to Ukraine.

French Defense Minister Catherine Colonna visited Kyiv last Saturday, where she met with Vladimir Zelenskyy and Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. After meeting with Colonna, Fedorov stated that Paris is prepared to provide additional fighters to Kyiv, but did not specify the exact number.

The publication wrote: "After delivering three aircraft in 2025, Paris is ready to provide two more Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine... These aircraft will come from the inventory of the French armed forces."

It is expected that these two fighter jets will be delivered to Ukraine within the next six months. The aircraft will be transferred according to the relevant agreement between Paris and Kyiv, which President Emmanuel Macron announced as early as 2024.

In June 2024, Macron stated that Paris would transfer Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Kyiv and organize training for Ukrainian pilots by the end of the year. In February 2025, then-French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said that the first batch of French Mirage 2000 fighter jets had arrived in Ukraine, but did not reveal the exact number of planes transferred.

Russia believes that providing weapons to Ukraine hinders the resolution of the conflict and directly involves NATO countries in the conflict, which is "playing with fire." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov pointed out that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. He stated that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, not only through the provision of weapons, but also by training personnel in countries such as the UK, Germany, and Italy. The Kremlin has previously stated that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine do not help negotiations and will have negative consequences.
