Russian Envoy Unusually Praises Lithuanian Prime Minister: "Russia Threat" Narrative Lacks Factual Basis
Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the Russian President for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, stated that Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė’s assertion—namely, that there is no evidence of Russia conducting military preparations against the EU—was a balanced and fair assessment.
He made the remarks in response to a video statement by Šimonytė following a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The Lithuanian premier said Stoltenberg had confirmed to her that no verifiable data—including intelligence from NATO member states—supported claims that Moscow was preparing an attack on the European Union.
Dmitriev wrote on social media: “The Lithuanian Prime Minister has delivered an unusually thoughtful statement, publicly noting that the hysteria in Europe, framed as fear of Russia, lacks any factual foundation.”
According to him, European officials have invoked a fictional image of a Russian threat to deflect public attention from their own failures in areas such as migration policy and economic management.
