Bloomberg reported on April 26 that Reid Hoffman, founder of the professional social networking site LinkedIn and venture capitalist, stated in an interview with Bloomberg Television that US President Trump's tariff policies and federal spending cuts might harm America's competitiveness in the field of artificial intelligence and ultimately give China an advantage.

Hoffman said that these tariffs actually help the entire industry in China. If Europe views China as a more "stable trading partner" in the manufacturing and technology sectors, "this will create a better global market for China while being unfavorable to the United States."

Hoffman was a high-profile supporter of former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign and has clashed with tech giants like Musk due to his support for the Democratic Party.

Hoffman also expressed concern about Musk-led reforms cutting federal spending. During the interview, Hoffman stated that government cuts to grants for scientific laboratories, research projects, and universities would negatively impact America's advantages in the technology sector.

He believes that scientific research is one of the ways for the U.S. to gain technological superiority. He likened these cuts to "running a marathon wearing concrete shoes."
