After being shot at during a White House correspondents' dinner, Trump was evacuated; the shooter is dead

On Saturday evening, during the 2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner held in the ballroom of the Washington Hilton Hotel, gunfire erupted, prompting immediate evacuation of President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President, and several other prominent attendees by the Secret Service. Guests were instructed to take cover under tables while fully armed agents took control of the scene.

According to Ted Johnson, a reporter on site for Deadline, who was located near the affected area in the ballroom: "I heard what sounded like four gunshots, the sound seeming to come from outside the ballroom corridor near my table."

The President, along with several high-ranking officials—including the First Lady, the Vice President, White House Correspondents Association President Jiang Weijia, and entertainer and mind magician Oz Pearlman—were quickly escorted out of the ballroom.

Secret Service agents leapt onto the stage amid the chaos.

Security personnel for Education Secretary Linda McMahon told CNN live on-site that there was a gunman inside the hall, who has since died.
