The U.S. military statement said, "This blockade will apply indiscriminately to all countries and all vessels entering Iranian ports or departing from their coastal areas, covering all ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. At the same time, the Central Command will not interfere with the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz or those traveling to and from non-Iranian ports."

It has been reported that the United Kingdom will ultimately support this blockade and dispatch ships to the Strait of Hormuz to carry out mine-clearing operations.
