German Defense Minister: Trump Should Apologize for Comments on NATO's Military Operations in Afghanistan

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius believes that U.S. President Donald Trump should apologize for his comments regarding NATO allies' operations in Afghanistan.

Last Thursday, Trump told Fox News that he was unsure whether NATO countries would support the United States when needed, and pointed out that the United States had never truly asked its allies for help. He also said that allied forces in Afghanistan sent troops but stayed away from the front lines.

Pistorius said during an interview with ARD television: "It is inappropriate and disrespectful to speak in such a way about fallen allied forces."

When asked whether Trump should apologize to the families of German soldiers who died in Afghanistan, Pistorius responded: "Of course, it would be a demonstration of decency, respect, and wisdom."

He also said that he plans to raise this issue during his meeting with U.S. counterpart Pete Hegseth.

Trump's comments on Afghanistan have caused strong outrage among Western political figures. UK Prime Minister Starmer called the remarks offensive, while Italian Prime Minister Meloni said they were unacceptable.
