US Media: Iran Still Reviewing US Proposal, Won't Respond to 'Ultimatum'
According to Fox News, the U.S. media outlet's official website reported on May 9: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, said that Tehran is still assessing the U.S. peace proposal aimed at ending the conflict and will respond "at the appropriate time." This statement came ahead of remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Rubio on Friday, who said the U.S. expects Iran to respond today.
The report stated, "We should know something today—I mean, we are waiting for their response," Rubio said. "We'll see exactly what this response is. We hope it allows us to enter a serious negotiation process." However, according to Middle East Eye, Baghaei said Tehran would not respond to "deadlines or ultimatums," which "mean nothing" to Iran.
The report also noted that President Trump said on Friday that the U.S. would "soon find out" whether Iran is deliberately "delaying" its response to the American proposal, as tensions remain high following clashes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The original headline of the report is《Iran still looking over US peace proposal, says deadlines ‘mean nothing’: report》(According to report, Iran still reviewing U.S. peace proposal, calls deadlines 'meaningless').
