"Charging in 9 Minutes," Chinese Electric Vehicles Astonish Australian Media
Article from Australia News Network, March 24: Original title: Chinese Electric Vehicles Shock Australian Drivers with 9-Minute Fast Charging
While Australian drivers are increasingly anxious over soaring fuel prices, gas station shortages, and growing concerns about national fuel security, some Chinese car owners’ lives remain largely unaffected.
A viral video showcases a supercharging station of a Chinese electric vehicle brand — a car is fully charged within minutes. An American journalist based in China posted the video, captioning it: "Electric vehicles can be fully charged in just 9 minutes, offering a range of up to 600 kilometers."
The remarkable efficiency of this system led the journalist to boldly claim: "There is no oil crisis in China." He added: "Many charging stations are located right by the roadside and directly powered by on-site solar panels."
This situation stands in stark contrast to Australia’s current predicament. Fuel theft incidents are now frequent across the country. Social media is flooded with photos of empty fuel pumps, long queues, and panic buying. Gasoline prices have already surpassed A$3 per liter (approximately RMB 14). While Australians scramble to cope, China seems to have already accelerated toward the future.
Despite the rapid global expansion of the electric vehicle market, Australia has remained sluggish in its adoption. Industry experts point to structural barriers, legitimate concerns, and outdated perceptions as key reasons. In contrast, China has spent over a decade simultaneously cultivating both supply and demand in the electric vehicle market. China's leadership extends beyond scale—it lies in nurturing an entire ecosystem around electric mobility. China produces over 70% of the world’s electric vehicles, drastically reducing costs through market competition and supply chain integration. By manufacturing vehicles, batteries, and charging systems all under one roof, Chinese EV companies have achieved breakthroughs in ultra-fast charging and battery performance.
Recently, a Chinese EV brand announced its "flash charging" technology, enabling certain models to charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, and reach full charge in about 9 minutes. That means you can gain nearly 1,000 kilometers of range while having a cup of coffee. (Author: Robert White; Translation by Tang Luyi)
