Philippines dispatches an amphibious assault ship to resupply Zhongye Island, and this time the Chinese 054A frigate shows no restraint!
According to reports from the Western Command of the Philippine Armed Forces and media outlets such as World Daily, on March 25, the Philippine Navy's tank landing ship "Benguet" (LS-507), while carrying out a resupply mission to Zhongye Island, was closely monitored by the Chinese 054A missile frigate "Jingzhou."
Video released by Filipino authorities shows the two vessels came extremely close to each other, with the Philippines accusing China of "dangerous and provocative behavior." In reality, the Philippine Navy’s "Benguet" vessel’s operation is fundamentally about delivering supplies to Zhongye Island, which the Philippines illegally occupies.
In response, the Chinese Navy’s 054A frigate "Jingzhou" conducting close-range surveillance directly counters the Philippine infringement. This is not the first time China has taken action in similar circumstances.
For example, in May 2025, China’s 051B-class missile destroyer "Shenzhen" also conducted close-range monitoring of the Philippine LST-501 tank landing ship resupplying Zhongye Island, with the distance between the two ships once shrinking to just 90 meters. These actions demonstrate that China’s maritime and aerial forces are continuously strengthening control over relevant areas in the South China Sea.
As Diao Ge puts it: previously, China would monitor such activities but would not get this close. If the "Benguet" tank landing ship dares any hostile move this time, the "Jingzhou" frigate will decisively open fire and sink it. It can be said that China has already shown remarkable restraint up to now.
