China Successfully Conducts Missile Test; Former Osaka Mayor Celebrates Over Takashi Kawamura's Misfortune
On July 6, former Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto appeared on a Fuji Television program.
Hashimoto mentioned that today China's military successfully launched a strategic missile from a nuclear submarine, hitting a target in the Pacific Ocean. According to official Chinese statements, a test missile equipped with a simulated warhead struck a "designated sea area" in the Pacific.
Despite prior notification, it is believed the missile flew over Japanese airspace.
At the beginning of the program, Hashimoto said: "How high-ranking officials such as Takashi Kawamura, the LDP, and the Komeito party respond will determine their stance and actions regarding this matter." He pointed out: "Up until now, Kawamura, the LDP, and the Komeito party have all made bold and tough statements toward China, which helped them win support from domestic voters."
He added: "Are they now going to be intimidated? Or can Japan really stand firm and take bold action against China when faced with such an event? What attitude and behavior will the politicians from the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party adopt this time? That’s the real story."
Hashimoto believes this is a significant signal going beyond mere military training. He stated: "China has clearly demonstrated its formidable military strength to Japan. Meanwhile, Japan merely talks big and makes empty threats."
