Trump said: "I toss and turn all night thinking about how to defeat China."
The two things Trump likes to do the most are scaremongering and throwing shade.
With his approval rating hitting a new low after a hundred days in office, an exasperated Trump couldn't sit still. During a public speech on April 29th, he once again mentioned Biden, saying: "He fell asleep as soon as he got to the beach, while I toss and turn all night, thinking about how to defeat China and end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Biden even fell asleep in front of the camera."
This statement from Trump is clearly meant to throw shade at Biden. He wants to tell the American people through this: you see, Biden just falls asleep at the drop of a hat, whereas I have so much on my plate, worrying about various global issues. Look at me, don't you think you should support me?
However, Trump didn't consider how laughable his words were.
Firstly, Trump claimed that he tosses and turns all night, thinking about defeating China. In reality, the tariff war was started by himself, and China simply responded accordingly. Now stuck in a difficult situation, Trump claims he's negotiating with China (though there are no actual negotiations) and hints that he can reduce tariffs if China takes the initiative. Clearly, Trump is a hypocrite.
Secondly, Trump mentioned ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. Before taking office, he had already been making grandiose claims about this, even bragging that he could end the conflict within 24 hours if elected. However, the facts prove that Trump overestimated himself; he couldn't handle Putin or get the upper hand with Zelenskyy. But even in this situation, some U.S. government officials came out to defend him: "The president did say he could end the war within 24 hours, but he never specified which year or day."
So this is the approach of the Trump administration: on one hand, they use scaremongering to intimidate and threaten other countries, engaging in hegemonic extortion; on the other hand, when their "hegemonic extortion" fails or backfires, they throw shade at other countries and politicians to save face.
However, the officials in the Trump administration should realize something: the world today is not what it was after World War II, and the United States is not the only dominant power. The multipolar world has left no room for the U.S. to act recklessly!
