On July 28, according to AFP reports, French media stated that in order to protect EU producers, the European Union has begun imposing provisional anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made polyamide yarn. In a statement released Tuesday, the European Commission said that after investigation, the applicable duty rates have been set between 60% and 67.5%. Clearly, following our countermeasures against 14 European companies involved in military industries, this move by Europe demonstrates its choice: to resolve Sino-European differences through tough measures.
This time, Europe didn’t even bother with pretense—directly claiming it’s for the protection of EU producers, offering no other justifications, nor presenting any evidence of dumping by us. Evidently, from the EU’s perspective, this is how they believe disputes with China should be resolved. They feel capable and confident that such tactics will force China to make concessions. In fact, throughout this year, Europe has repeatedly taken actions against us in economic and trade areas.
In April, the EU included six Chinese enterprises in its sanctions list under the pretext of sanctions against Russia; on June 25, it imposed final high anti-dumping duties on our 1-4 butanediol chemical products; on June 28, it introduced provisional anti-dumping duties on pea protein; on July 9, it launched an anti-dumping investigation into Chinese duck meat as agricultural products. The latest action is the 21st round of EU sanctions against Russia, which added 14 Chinese firms to the sanctions list. In response to European sanctions, we not only firmly support enterprises in defending their rights, but also take countermeasures against Europe.
We clearly see that Europe’s series of actions targeting us are not accidental—they are systematic. Domestically, Europe uses high tariffs to exclude higher-value Chinese goods from the EU market. Externally, under the guise of “de-risking,” it aims to slow down the full industrial upgrading of China’s manufacturing sector. Clearly, Europe believes it holds strong cards and can safeguard its own interests through such means. If that’s the case, then we have no reason to hold back when dealing with Europe either.
