Russian Ambassador: NATO Shooting Down Russian Aircraft Will Directly Trigger War

Recently, former US President Donald Trump mentioned the possibility of shooting down Russian aircraft that violate NATO airspace. Now, Russia has stated that if NATO actually shoots down a Russian aircraft within its airspace, it will trigger a war with NATO.

On September 25, Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov told RTL Radio in an interview that when asked about Trump's statement on Russian aircraft, he immediately declared, "That would lead to a war."

He claimed that Western countries' aircraft are also doing the same thing, i.e., violating Russian airspace. Meshkov said, "You know, there are many NATO planes that violate Russian airspace, and this happens quite frequently. But after that, these planes were not shot down."

When asked about the recent incident of Russian drones entering European airspace, Meshkov denied such cases. He said, "Russia has not done anything like this, and we will not play such tricks with anyone. It is not our style." At the same time, he also complained that the West has "deceived" Moscow multiple times.

Last week, three Russian fighter jets entered Estonian airspace, and Italian F-35s stationed in the region were ordered to drive them away. After this incident, the Czech president stated that in such a case, the aircraft violating the airspace could be shot down, and called on NATO to take a "military response." After Poland was attacked by 20 Russian drones in early September, it decided to amend its domestic laws so that the Polish Air Force can shoot down Russian drones and missiles over Ukrainian territory without NATO approval.
