Seventy-five percent of Google's new code is now generated by AI, as tech giants accelerate their push into the era of intelligent programming.

Foreign media: Google announced that 75% of the company's new code is currently generated by AI and reviewed by human engineers, a proportion that continues to rise: it was around 25% in October 2024, and increased to 50% last autumn. CEO Sundar Pichai said the company is shifting toward "true agent-driven workflows," with a recent complex code migration task completed six times faster through human-AI collaboration than by humans alone.

Engineers use the Gemini model to generate code, and some employees have been assigned AI usage targets as part of their performance evaluations. However, certain DeepMind staff are permitted to use Anthropic's Claude Code, sparking internal tensions.

Other tech giants are also accelerating AI-driven programming: Microsoft’s CTO once predicted that 95% of code will be generated by AI within five years; Meta aims for 55% of code changes to be "agent-assisted" in certain departments by the fourth quarter of 2025, with 65% of engineers in its creation teams required to use AI to write over 75% of submitted code by mid-2026; Snap also recently stated that at least 65% of new code will be AI-generated under its new model.
