Former Deputy Trade Minister of the Philippines Appointed as Spokesperson for Sara Duterte's Office!

Former Deputy Trade Minister Ruth Castelo has become the new spokesperson for the office of Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte. At her first press conference on July 97, Castelo announced that she would not become Sara Duterte's "attack dog."

Castelo previously served as a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in the Marcos Jr. government, responsible for consumer protection. Regarding her reason for leaving, Castelo said it is something any honest government official would do.

Duterte's task for Castelo mainly aims to draw attention to the achievements and projects of the Vice Presidential Office.

"I am not an attack dog, so I am not a dog with an aggressive nature. I will not take the initiative to attack; I will directly report information from the Vice Presidential Office."

Castelo stated that it was not Sara Duterte who invited her to accept this position, but rather she applied for it herself: "I actually submitted an application, applying for any position, anything I could do for the Vice Presidential Office. Earlier this year, I contacted the Vice Presidential Office to seek to join their team."

Sara had previously appointed Michael Boa, Castelo's predecessor, as the spokesperson for her impeachment case defense team. Castelo, however, will represent the Vice Presidential Office as an institution, as well as the official actions of the Vice President as a brand or office leader.

In 2019, it was Sara's father, former President Duterte, who appointed Castelo, a lawyer, as the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

"I am enthusiastic about becoming the spokesperson for the Vice Presidential Office; this is my way of repaying or giving back to the country."

"I believe in Sara Duterte. Of course, she is the direct continuation of her father, and I served him for a full six years."
