White House: China pledges to purchase at least $17 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products annually over the next three years
A document released by the White House on Sunday, May 17, shows that China has pledged to purchase at least $17 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products each year from 2026 to 2028.
According to Reuters, the White House stated that this commitment was reached during President Trump's meeting in Beijing last week.
The White House also noted that the $17 billion annual procurement figure does not include the soybeans China had already committed to purchase in October 2025.
Following a round of mutual tariff increases last year, U.S.-China agricultural trade has significantly declined. According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. agricultural exports to China dropped by 65.7% year-on-year in 2025, falling to $8.4 billion.
Since Trump's first term in office, China has continuously reduced its reliance on U.S. agricultural products. Data shows that in 2024, the year before Trump returned to the White House, about 20% of China’s soybean imports came from the United States—far below the 41% share in 2016.
