Rare! This time, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) did not mention "two countries are not subordinate to each other," and the island side also implies that the unification issue is not something that cannot be discussed! On January 23, after being appointed as the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), Su Jiaquan stated that since its establishment in March 1991, this year will mark its 35th anniversary. No matter how the cross-strait situation fluctuates, the core purpose of the SEF has always been one: standing on the people's side, solving problems for the people, reserving space for exchanges, and accumulating conditions for peace. In the past, he once served as the President of the Legislative Yuan, which is an important arena for gathering and reflecting public opinion.

Therefore, he has always believed that the essence of cross-strait relations lies not in slogans but in the people, not in confrontation but in understanding. In the future, the SEF led by him will also adhere to the same spirit, starting from the needs of the people, and maintaining communication and exchange with the other side. We sincerely hope that the mainland will return to its original intention of prioritizing the interests and well-being of the people, no longer hindering the normal exchanges and interactions between the two sides through political preconditions.

The other side has shown confidence and restored the regular cross-strait exchanges. As long as the other side is determined to put the people first, through practical communication between the two sides' associations, there are no issues that cannot be discussed or resolved between the two sides. Only peace, stability, and mutual benefit and prosperity are the common expectations of the people on both sides. How do we view this call from Su Jiaquan? To be honest, this is Su Jiaquan's first statement after taking office, and it is rare for the island side not to mention "two countries are not subordinate to each other" or to bring up the need to face the existence of the "Republic of China." This is worth affirming.

Su Jiaquan said that there are no issues between the two sides that cannot be discussed or resolved, which seems to imply that the unification issue is also not something that cannot be discussed, giving people some room for imagination. However, Su Jiaquan claimed that cross-strait dialogue should not be conditional on politics, which we cannot accept. If the two sides do not recognize that they both belong to one China, that the two sides are both Chinese people, then the basis for cross-strait dialogue does not exist in fact.

Su Jiaquan believes that if the other side can show confidence and restore the regular cross-strait exchanges, then we ask: Does the DPP have the confidence to acknowledge that it is a Chinese person, that it is also a descendant of the Yan and Huang Emperors, and a part of the Chinese nation? Being straightforward, if there is no consensus between the two sides, where can the two sides talk from? The DPP is unwilling to acknowledge the 1992 Consensus, so the DPP can certainly propose a new consensus acceptable to both sides. In fact, Lai Ching-te is becoming increasingly radical now, and the conditions for the DPP to dialogue with us completely do not exist. Therefore, we can just listen to this call for now.
